The Golden Crescent Healthcare Coalition held the nineteenth annual Mid Coast Hurricane & Disaster Conference on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Victoria Community Center in Victoria, Texas.

Registration for the conference included the opportunity to hear from professionals in the Golden Crescent region who led the community through the preparedness, response, and recovery of Hurricane Harvey.¬†Our keynote presentations featured Meteorologist John Metz, who gave an overview of Hurricane Harvey and the upcoming hurricane season, and individuals directly involved with the Sutherland Springs church shooting gave an overview on the quick response efforts of the community. Our sessions covered topics such as first responder’s mental health during disaster, emergency communications: lessons learned, effects of disaster on faith-based communities, public utilities overview, education on alcohol awareness, and drones and robotics usage in disasters and emergencies. There were also be multiple Stop the Bleed courses available intended to train, equip, and empower bystanders to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

There were over 25 vendors for guests to interact with during the conference, as well as the opportunity for a first-hand look at regional assets and equipment used to respond to emergencies and disasters.
